FESTIVAL OF BRUSCHETTA
August
Scents and flavors of the Gargano cuisine, all seasoned with good popular music.
This is the feast of bruschetta in Apricena, for the enhancement of local products and the poor Puglian cuisine. Slices of homemade bread, tomatoes and other delicacies are served in the square.

BICCARI (FG)
FESTIVAL OF PIZZA A FURN APIJERT
August 29th
“Pizza a furn apijert” (open oven): it is the best known end-of-season festival organized for eight years by Pro loco and always with increasing success.
Of course, pizza is just a good reason to call for cheese, wine, olives, bread and other baked goods. All seasoned with lively musical and folk performances.

FEST ‘DU CAUDJELL AND OLIVE OIL
7 December
About 20 years ago, the festival originated from the oldest tradition of the Daunia millers to let buyers taste toast on the embers of the carpets and seasoned with freshly squeezed olive oil.
A festival that of Biccari very simple made of quiet people that welcomes visitors and accompanies them along the medieval streets.
These, with the feast of caudjell, scent of toasted bread, burnt wood, beans and sausage with a knife tip.

FESTIVAL OF BRUSCHETTE AND FRIED PIZZA
August 25th
The tradition of this festival has been resumed for about ten years, but has roots in the antiquity of the peasant world.
The toasted bread was the snack of the farmers who, before going to work in the fields, at dawn, used to put on the embers of the fireplace, which was now dying out, slices of bread, roasted, still shared hot with oil, salt, pepper and some tomatoes on the edge, a pinch of oregano, everything had to be satiated until dinner time.
Instead the fried pizzas, or the “pettole”, are of Christmas tradition and are, as we know, made of leavened bread mass and fried in boiling olive oil.
On the 25th of August, when so many emigrants returned to the village for holidays, the ancient ritual of toasted bread and fried pizzas is repeated in the San Procopio district (for them and for tourists).

CANDELA (FG)
SAGRA DEGLI ASPARAGI
1st decade of June
The festival, even if recent, has quickly become the attention of farmers and gourmets.
In fact, it is connected to the exhibition / market of typical products and agricultural machinery; at the same time, asparagus is the product that is attracting increasing interest in its growing marketing, having rediscovered its versatility in the kitchen together with its healthy qualities.
The cultivation of the vegetable has had a strong increase in the campaigns of Candela, hence the opportunity of the festival and the exhibition of typical products as an opportunity to spread also oil, wine, wheat, cheese and preserves of the area.

CARLANTINO (FG)
FESTIVAL OF RICOTTA
May 25th
An ancient and suggestive custom linked to the pastoral world of the Gargano has kept up to nowadays a truly singular festival: that of the ricotta, on the occasion of the celebrations for the Madonna dell’Annunziata.
In the past Carlantino was an important sheep breeding center and also a nodal point of transhumance from and to Abruzzo and Molise.
At that time the valleys of the Fortore and the Daunia cattle tracks were teeming with sheep, goats and lambs whose dairy farming is linked, but more intense in spring.
In Carlantino we turn to the Madonna, renamed “ricotta”, because it interced favorably. In May the flocks returned from the pastures of Puglia and headed to Molise or Abruzzo and it was a must stop near the chapel of the SS. Annunziata, surrounded by pingui pastures.

CARPINO (FG)
FESTIVAL OF BROAD BEANS AND OLIVE OIL
August 12th
It is held in the historic center, with great participation of tourists from the coast.
The beans are described by the organizers of the party as small, shapely, eye-licking, fruits aware of a ferrous earth in the Carpino floodplain.
The festival is very engaging because accompanied by dances and folk songs of Pacchianella and the Balkans.

CASTELNUOVO DELLA DAUNIA (FG)
ZAGHETTE SAGRA
August 8th
The beauty of this festival, dedicated to a dish so typical of rural culture, is that the zanghètte are prepared by the most experienced women, under the eyes of everyone, in a stand in Piazza Plebiscito.
Knead and spread (by hand) pounds and kilos of flour; instead, the burden and the honor of preparing the sauce usually belongs to some restaurateur.
The cooking of pasta, even in the square in a large cavdhr (boiler), and its taste, take place in long tables, where you will sit comfortably talking, drink good wine and enjoy the zanghètte in the open air.

HAM SAGRA
1st of August
It is a very “appetizing” festival that honors the ham: it has more than 35 years of life.
Many years of life for this salami that, although not as famous as others, is the same excellent as made with legs of pigs reared with care in the mid-mountain air.

MANFREDONIA (FG)
FAGRATA AND U SKAGGHJUZZE FESTIVAL
Carnival
The first delicatessen, the farrata, is proposed in Piazza Giovanni XXIII on the occasion of the carnival; it is done with grain left to soak overnight and then dried for 12 hours.
Tradition wants it to be savored early in the morning, at the singing of the sellers.
The second festival those of skagghjuzze is held in Piazza del Popolo and the product offered consists of fried polenta leaving it to dry for at least 12 hours.
So in the square of Manfredonia between masks, parades of wagons, confetti, music, and jokes, both the “ferrata” and “u skagghjuzze” festivals take place.

MARGHERITA DI SAVOIA (FG)
FISH SUGAR
July 26th-29th
The fish festival has reached at least 40 editions and is dedicated to their patron, the Madonna dello Sterpeto.
On the morning of the 26th Mass is celebrated in the parish of the SS. Salvatore and the procession of the statue of Our Lady of the Sterpeto to the port, where the effigy is embarked on a fishing boat and carried in a procession to the sea.
On the evening of the 27th the fishermen gather in Punta Pagliaio to sing and listen to musical pieces.
On the 29th, always the same way, you can taste the finest quality fish: octopus and seafood roasted on the grill, fried or raw and can also taste mussels, clams, razor clams, cottage, oysters, curly served with white wine, beer and lots of good bread, all accompanied by beautiful fireworks!

MONTAGNA S. SALVATORE (FG)
FESTIVALS OF PASTORAL CIVILIZATION
Christmas and August
At Christmas there is the feast of pettole with other delicacies, typical of country life, good wine Gargano, Christmas Mass (among the shepherds), visit to the stalls on the back of somarelli.
The first days of August are held the “Feast of the mountain pastoral civilization” and the “Festival of caciocavallo podalico” on the San Salvatore Mountain.
Do not miss the tasting of dishes of Gargano cuisine prepared by Grandma Rosa in her cellar and tastings of podolico stew, bread and mountain cherry tomatoes, spit braids.
On August 12th the “Nodino and Bruschetta di Montagna” festival takes place.
In the early afternoon walk along the paths of the San Salvador mountain with grazing cows and the youngest pastor of the community.
In the late afternoon guided tour of the stables and milking; in the evening the Sagra begins, during which there is the preparation of the nodini and leavened bread. This bread is toasted and becomes bruschetta topped with tomatoes collected in the vegetable garden; all accompanied by wines, Latin music, for dances on the farmyard, which enliven the festival.

MONTELEONE DI PUGLIA (FG)
SAGRA DEL CACCIOCAVALLO & C.
August 13th
The festival saw the first edition a decade ago and has had a growing success as the organizers year known to keep the festivities within the purest is simple rural tradition.
The strongest pieces of the festival are: caciocavallo with other fresh or aged cheeses, bread, cicatiell or semolina pasta made at home, topped with fresh tomato paste or meat sauce.
The party is also accompanied by local wines.

ORSARA (FG)
WINE PARTY
June 24th
This festival is always very crowded with vacationers who spend their holidays on the coast of the Gulf of Manfredonia: without missing the appointment with the “Tuccanese”, a full-bodied red wine, produced from an ancient Greek grape.
The party begins in the morning with exhibitions of painting and beats on the “Tuccanese”. In the afternoon, in Piazza San Pietro, there is the performance of flag-wavers and musicians; then the opening of the stands for the tasting of wine and other typical local products. Following awards for the best “decorations” of the neighborhoods.

SAN FERDINANDO (FG)
SAGE OF ARTICHOKE
October 23-26
The festival, although having changed over time at the fair, still maintains the appearance of the peasant festival. There is exhibited the best of the production of local artichokes, various horticultural or arboreal products, especially olives, and is an opportunity to exhibit agricultural machinery; at the same time a fine wine review allows you to taste the typical local wines. These are well accompanied with dishes based on artichokes that are prepared for the feast of San Ferdinando.

SANNICANDRO GARGANICO (FG)
FESTIVAL OF MUSCISKA
June 14-17
The proposal of the musciska festival based on goat meat is truly unique.
It was the dish preferred by the shepherds of the Gargano and with time the dish, not always easy to prepare, fell into disuse to be then recovered from the dedicated festival.
The party is also an opportunity to consume other typical local products such as cold cuts, bread, wine and listen to popular music. The tradition is also respected in Rignano Garganico, called the “Balcony of Puglia”, where the same festival is held the day before in Piazza Portagrande.

SANT’AGATA OF PUGLIA (FG)
SAGRA DEI CICCECUOTTE
November 1st
It is a festival that was getting lost, despite having origins linked to the cult of the dead; it is due to the Pro loco if this tradition has been successfully resumed.
Ciccecuotte is a typical dish made with boiled soft wheat and seasoned with walnuts, wine cooked with fried oil, pomegranate grains and some chocolate.
The festival is held in the square of the Old City with so much passionate participation of the inhabitants and those who live far away return to the village for their dead.

TRINITAPOLI (FG)
SAGRA DE CARCIOFO AND CELERY
November 27th December 1st
The festival is full of fruit and vegetable specialties grown in the fertile plain of Trinitapoli: salads, spinach, onions, carrots, fruit and olives.
In addition, artichokes and celery, which are particularly tasty and thick in these parts, which make their appearance on the cornucopia fair stands.
During the festival, tasty samples of fried artichokes, bread and cheese, especially the pecorino di Trinitapoli, and wine from the local social cellars.

VICO DEL GARGANO (FG)
SAINT VALENTINE OR ARANCI FESTIVAL
February 14th
The festival is in conjunction with the celebrations for Valentine’s Day.
Ten days before from February 14th in Vico del Gargano, the altar of the master church, surmounted by the statue of the Saint, is decorated with orange trees brought by the girls as husband.
Even houses and streets are unread with festoons of citrus fruits and leaves.
The festival consists of the exhibition and sale of citrus fruits, liqueurs, sweets, candies all based on oranges.
